Charming vintage THUN ceramic horse figurine / candleholder, made in Bolzano, Italy. The stylized horse is finished in a vivid red glaze with hand-painted gold floral decoration, dark accents along the mane and back, and gold detailing on the tail. The simple, almost folk-art inspired form gives it a wonderful mid-century Italian character.
The opening at the rear leg/base shows that this piece was designed to hold a candle. The original THUN Bolzano label is still present underneath, which is a lovely detail for collectors of early THUN ceramics. A decorative and unusual Italian ceramic piece from the mid-20th century.
