Striking vintage Silberdistel Keramik double-handled vase, made in West Germany during the 1960s. The amphora-inspired form is covered in a thick volcanic glaze in intense cobalt and ultramarine blue, with irregular crater-like textures across the entire surface.
Silberdistel remained a relatively small ceramic studio and became particularly admired for its sophisticated experimental glazes. The combination of a traditional two-handled silhouette with an extreme lava surface is a beautiful example of the expressive direction German studio ceramics took during the 1960s.
