SAWA Keramik, founded in 1904 by Frans Schwaderlapp in Ransbach-Baumbach, Germany, initially produced abrasives but soon transitioned to making vases and pottery. After World War II, in 1951, the company began producing artisanal ceramics under the name SAWA-Keramik. Heinrich-Maria Müller, the chief designer from 1951 to 1965, created many unique vases using techniques like Kerbschnitt (manual grooves), plastischer Kerbschnitt (plastic grooves), and sigilata (relief with stamps). These methods were labor-intensive and costly, contributing to the high quality and distinctiveness of SAWA ceramics.
