Beautiful vintage Pieter Groeneveldt chimney vase, model 152, made in the Netherlands during the 1960s. The low square form has a small offset opening and a heavily textured glaze in deep purple, aubergine, brown and charcoal tones.
Groeneveldt’s block and chimney vases are characteristic of his later Modernist work, where simple architectural shapes were combined with rough, stone-like glazes. His experimental surfaces gave Dutch studio pottery of the period a distinctly sculptural and almost Brutalist quality.
