While Bogler is celebrated for his ceramic work, his story takes an interesting turn: in 1939, he became prior of Maria Laach monastery. Yet, his creative passion for pottery design continued. Bogler partnered with various companies to bring his visions to life, as there was no pottery production within the abbey itself.
This particular vase was expertly crafted by Staatlich Majolika-Manufaktur Karlsruhe, a renowned German ceramics manufacturer. The vase bears a special marking on the bottom, indicating its exclusive distribution through "ars liturgica," the shop run by Theodor Bogler himself at Maria Laach abbey.
It's important to note the distinction in the creative process: Theodor Bogler was responsible for the elegant and timeless shapes of these vases. The beautiful glazes, which enhance the form so perfectly, are original to Staatlich Majolika-Manufaktur Karlsruhe, showcasing their own artistry and expertise. The red glaze was also used on other pieces produced by the company.
