These sculptural figurines are charming pieces of German Studio Art Pottery from the 1960's.
They were made by Helmut Friedrich Schäffenacker at his own workshop, Atelier Schäffenacker. Schäffenacker was well-known for creating animal sculptures and wall plaques.
These elephants were designed in a modernist style. It is glazed in a dark brown color combination. Schäffenacker's figures have an organic, hand-formed appearance that collectors appreciate.
Helmut Friedrich Schäffenacker (1921–2010) founded his studio in Ulm, Germany, in 1948. He was a ceramic artist, painter, and sculptor who made pieces in small, limited batches. His work heavily influenced West German ceramic aesthetics during the 1960s and 1970s.
