This is a beautiful and rare set of two vintage hedgehog figurine from the 1960s, unique pieces of Austrian Studio Art Pottery. They were designed by the renowned artist Gudrun Baudisch for her studio in Hallstatt, Austria.
The hedgehogs feature a minimalist, chunky form with a deeply textured surface that gives it a brutalist or organic feel. They are finished in a striking metallic golden/bronze glaze. These highly sought-after pieces are marked on the base.
Gudrun Baudisch (1907–1982) was a highly influential Austrian ceramicist. She worked in Vienna and later established her own workshop in Hallstatt in 1947. Her work is celebrated for its distinctive, experimental glazes and expressive, slightly stylized animal forms.
This rare and highly collectible set of hedgehogs is in perfect vintage condition.
