Large Vintage ACHATIT WERKSTÄTTEN Asian Lady Wall Mask 6068 By Hans Schirmer from West Germany 1950s 1960s

This fantastic wall mask is a product of the innovative German company, Achatit Werkstätten, stablished in 1948 by Hans Schirmer and the sculptor Peter Ludwig.
It depicts a serene Asian lady with intricate details, crafted from a dark, stone-like composite material. Its elegant, stylized form and subtle coloring make it a captivating piece of mid-century decor.

Achatit pioneered a unique, non-ceramic material (which they trademarked), created by boiling finely powdered stone with sawdust and a binding agent before molding. After cooling, each sculpture was expertly painted or gilded and then polished with agate stones – a process that gave both the material and the company their "Achat" (German for agate) name. Their distinctive method produced pieces with a finish often confused with traditional ceramics.
