Striking vintage Karlsruher Majolika ceramic wall plaque, designed by Werner Meschede in the 1960s. The raised sunflower composition is finished in vivid yellow and green against a rich cobalt and turquoise blue background, with a beautifully crackled and highly textured glazed surface.
Werner Meschede created an extensive series of botanical relief plaques for the Karlsruhe Majolica Manufactory during the post-war period. His expressive three-dimensional flowers and intense glazes transformed traditional majolica into bold Mid-Century wall art, and the sunflower was one of the recurring subjects within this series.
