This beautiful vintage vase with hourglass shape was produced by Stein Keramik in West Germany during the 1970s. It features a striking brown and white Fat Lava glaze with a rugged, volcanic texture that perfectly captures the bold style of German ceramics from this period.
An interesting detail is that Stein Keramik and Jopeko Keramik often produced very similar designs, shapes and glazes.
Collectors have noticed that several decorations appear almost identical. It remains a bit of a mystery why this happened, but both companies, together with makers such as Walter Gerhards, were located in the same pottery region of Ransbach-Baumbach, Germany. There may have been a connection or mutual influence between these manufacturers, although no official explanation has been confirmed.
