This tall, diabolo ceramic vase is a great example of West German Pottery. It was made by Scheurich Keramik, the most prominent pottery company in the mid-century era. The piece features a vibrant 'Fat Lava' glaze style from the 1970s.
The bottom of the vase has a rich, glossy red glaze that fades into a fiery orange and brown mix. The top and the middle has a rough, highly textured 'lava' effect that looks melted and bubbly.
Scheurich Keramik was founded in 1928 and started producing ceramics in 1954. The company became the largest West German pottery manufacturer until the 1980s. Designer Heinz Siery created many of Scheurich's famous shapes, including this one.
