Beautiful crystal ashtray featuring an exquisite pattern of arranged air bubbles, handcrafted from pure crystal. The crystal ashtray was designed by Andries Dirk Copier (1901-1991) for the Glassworks in the Dutch glass city of Leerdam, where the unique air pattern was created by blowing the glass on the blowpipe into a mold with nails. This art glass ashtray is also called a "nail ashtray" or "spike ashtray".
Andries Dirk Copier is considered one of the most important Dutch glass artists of the 20th century. He began his career at the Leerdam Glass Factory at the young age of 13, where his talent was recognized early on. Copier was given the opportunity to experiment and develop new techniques for both utility glass and unique pieces
