Vintage Robert Sturm studio ceramic sculpture / sculptural vessel, signed ST 77, Germany, 1977.
Robert Sturm was a German sculptor, ceramic artist and professor at the Fachhochschule Fulda, known for his architectural, hand-built ceramic works made from slab-formed clay rather than wheel-thrown pottery.
This impressive piece has a strong brutalist and constructivist form, with angled geometric panels, an open sculptural body and a beautiful earthy feldspar-style glaze in cream, brown and ochre tones. The sculpture comes with its original folded documentation titled “Gedanken zu der keramischen Plastik Aw von Robert Sturm”, which describes the artwork, material and artistic background.
The piece is in excellent vintage condition. The rough texture, glaze variations, small irregularities and earthy surface structure are part of the handmade studio ceramic character.
