Pieter Groeneveldt was a prominent Dutch artist, ceramist, poet, and pottery manufacturer who lived from March 27, 1889, to October 19, 1982.
He established his own studio in Wassenaar in 1925 and moved to Voorschoten in 1927, where he founded the Groeneveldt pottery factory in 1938.
Groeneveldt's innovative approach to ceramics, particularly his glaze development, placed him at the forefront of mid-century ceramic design. However, competition from mass-produced "fat lava" pottery in the 1960s and 1970s led to the closure of his studio in 1972.
In his final decade, Groeneveldt created many unique pieces from his home in Voorschoten, a period known as the "serre period".
His work is becoming increasingly collectible as it gains recognition.
