This beautiful studio pottery vase by Lu Klopfer( Töpferei Johann Lipp, Mering) features a rounded bottle shape with a narrow neck and a striking hand-decorated abstract design. The black background is enriched with geometric shapes in purple, olive green and white, creating a modernist look that fits perfectly in a Mid-Century or contemporary interior.
Ludwig “Lu” Klopfer (1924-1977) was the grandson of Johann Lipp, whose family pottery in Mering, Germany, became known as Meringer Kunsttöpferei Johann Lipp. After his training and master examination in Landshut, Klopfer took over the artistic direction of the workshop in the late 1940s and designed its modern shapes and decors. He was active mainly from the late 1940s until his death in 1977, creating both production pieces and unique works with experimental glazes and firing techniques.
This vase is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Please study the photos carefully as they form part of the description.
