This attractive ball vase is an authentic piece of West German pottery made by Carstens Keramik. The popular mid-century form is clearly marked on the base as 1237-18.
The vase features a perfectly spherical, classic 'ball' silhouette with a smooth, glossy dark blue glaze and beige rough 'sandpaper" structure base. The rich color and simple, elegant shape embody the best of mid-century German design.
Carstens Tönnieshof was one of the largest and most influential ceramic producers in West Germany, operating from 1947 to 1984. Known for high quality and experimental designs, Carstens hired many leading designers and was a powerhouse of ceramics in the Fat Lava era.
