This tall, sculptural ceramic vase is a superb example of Italian Mid-Century Modern design. It was made by Bertoncello Ceramiche d'Arte in the 1960s or 1970s. The vase is known for its strong modernist shape and unique textural glaze.
The body has a rich brown-gold mottled glaze (Screziato Tabacco) that covers the entire form.
Bertoncello Ceramiche d'Arte was founded in Schiavon, Italy, around 1956. The company’s design philosophy was led by Giovanni Bertoncello (1930–2011). Designer Roberto Rigon is also credited with many of the modernist shapes produced there.
