This eye-catching ceramic vase is an excellent example of mid-century West German Pottery. It was made by AKRU Keramik, a smaller but respected company in the era. This piece is from the "Messina" decor series, which is known for its bright colors.
The body features a vibrant, glossy turquoise blue glaze. It has bands of impressed decorative patterns around the neck and body. The raised areas are highlighted with a dark brown glaze, giving the texture definition.
AKRU Keramik (Alfred Krupp) was founded in 1949 in Ransbach-Baumbach, Germany. The company was known for creating very modern and colorful decorative shapes. AKRU stopped production of these popular vases around the mid-1970s.
