Impressive large vintage Bay Keramik floor vase, model 543-40, with the distinctive Kongo decor, designed by Bodo Mans and made in West Germany in 1959.
The sculptural form has a matte dark brown surface decorated with raised oval medallions in white, blue, yellow, pink and turquoise, connected by delicate flowing incised lines.
The Kongo series is an early Bodo Mans design for Bay Keramik and beautifully demonstrates his characteristic use of graphic patterns and contrasting colors. A substantial Mid-Century statement vase with a wonderfully artistic, almost painterly appearance.
Vintage condition with some signs of use consistent with age.
